Local election 2019 key dates

  • Candidate nominations open 27th March and close - 3rd April at 4pm
  • Register to vote deadline is 12th April at midnight. You can register to vote online up until midnight and they will be accepted. However, the Elections office won’t be open for calls as in previous years.
  • Application for postal votes deadline is 15th April at 5pm.
  • Cancellation of an existing postal vote deadline is 15th April at 5pm. After this date you cannot change to voting at the station, you will have to keep the postal vote arrangement you have in place.
  • Application to vote by proxy deadline is 24th April at 5pm
  • Return of postal votes deadline is by 10pm on polling day, they can be dropped at your local polling station, or Blackburn Town Hall if it’s too late to post it.

It is now much easier for you to get yourself on the Electoral Register.

Register to vote

It will ask you to provide your:

  • name
  • address
  • contact details
  • National Insurance number

Please make sure you have this information available before using the form.

Once you have completed the form your details will be sent back to us.

After we have received the form, it can take up to 8 weeks for your details to be added to the Electoral Register. You will receive a letter to confirm that your details have been added, so there's no need for you to contact us again.

Postal votes

Anyone can apply to vote by post. You don’t need to give a reason.
